Letter to Rosneblum of INdTV-

Rosenblum, Tyler Hanson - denied applicant #1834.

So I am curious to know, is it true that you are no longer going to work with INdTV? Vicious rumors flying around the cyber space mill.

And if that is not true, is the game still on or was it all smoke and mirrors?

Curious cats wish to know.

At this point www.INdTV.tv has gone from a revolution that was going to democratize TV and change the world of MEDIA, to a Reality Internet gossip column written by the leftover disenfranchised rejects, and the few accepty's.

Personally I have enjoyed the ride. And I would like to say thank you, for being the direct cause and effect for me participating in this crazy experience. Because of you my friend, and your impact you had on me when you came here to Austin and threw your INdTV revolution pitch, the video eye in me has been reawakened. After lying dormant for so many years, ever since my camera died, I have come back to filming the world through my respective perspective.

Right around the time I was calling on all of my friends to let me use their cameras to make this video submission for "Al Gore's" new TV station. My mom called up to tell me that she had won a video camera, from a Longs Drug store sweepstake, and wondered if I would like to have it. Hell's Ya I told here. And so, now I am armed with the lowest grade Sony High 8 camera TRV67. Going price on Ebay- $50. It doesn't even have firewire. And I love it. Cause I'm back to filming my weird life all the time again.

But back to that pitch you threw here in Austin, it was brilliant man. It's a little stand-up comedy media evangelist mixed with college Professor, dab of Billy Crystal, touch of Brooklyn. Brilliant I say. Like most, I walked in there a total skeptic. At the end I think we all walked out true believers- for at least a moment in time. True believers in this idea that the means in which to create a revolution were upon us. Laptops and Digital cameras, Hurah. The time was here, we, the regular people were going to have the opportunity to take back those Satellites eyes in the sky, yes we were going to finally be able to make TV good, better than it's ever been. TV was finally going to be what it was meant to be! All because of us, the little people, who's voices had been repressed for so long, the voice of our generation was finally going to be heard. And the great God of door openers, Al Gore was behind us, or in front of us, or just on a piece of paper somewhere. Who cares where. Seize the media! Democratize TV! DC'S Unit
Arrrrrrrr- Howard Dean scream.

At the end you could have said-
"Alright, who wants to be part of this revolution?"
All the hands would have gone up, like kids in a candy store, all caught hook line and sinker.
"It's $99.99 to "Apply", you can come over here and swipe your credit card. And be on your way to revolutionizing TV"

I kidd, I kidd...

Seriously though, it's a good speech. And obviously there are/were plenty of believers in the media revolution that you spoke of. What ever "it" was- that INdTV was supposed to be, wanted to be or thought it could be, and what ever it becomes. IT struck a cord. Y'all hit a nerve with your revolutionary talk. And I know that there are many of us out there that were screaming hello!!!! Finally!!!
"This is what I have been talking about the whole time."

What was so "revolutionary" about it, too me, was that it seemed like it was coming from the top down, where as it usually comes from the bottom up.

What I want to know is, was it just a speech....?

I believe that you believe that what you are saying is truth. And in the end this little INdTV ride, that reeks of the old dot com bomb days, has only affirmed my belief that the revolution will not be televised. No wait not that, I mean it has only affirmed my belief that there needs to be a media revolution. Right. Everybody say lawds yes... And rise up and take back what is yours and mine. Never in our generation has the time been ripe for a revolution. But where are the masses, why aren’t they rising up- oh ya, there not coming, there at home watching TV.

You can go talk to most everyone, and they will tell you that TV sucks- yet they still watch 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 hours of it a day. We all say that it sucks, except for "our" shows. We all say it sucks while we sit and watch day in and night out.

Which makes me wonder- Do the masses want a media revolution?

Now personally, I have been screaming to whoever will listen, "We need a Revolution!" For most of my life. When I was in High school back in the day (late 80's early 90's) I use to say- "We don't have anything to fight for! We need a reason to have a revolution!"
As I got older I realized that the revolution comes from within, and not from them.

The technology in which to make the media revolution is here, there, and always right around the corner. No doubt about it. But the outlet isn't. The satellite eyes in the sky are still owned by "them" and not "us". And until that changes, our screams will be heard from where they have always been heard- from where ever they can, wherever they squeak out.

"Our Culture is killing us. We must kill our culture. "

my generation is too lazy for anarchy...
And I do not remember what my point was

I leave you with Gill Scott Heron-

The revolution will no be televised
You will not be able to stay home, brother.
You will not be able to plug in, turn on and cop out.
You will not be able to lose yourself on skag and skip,
Skip out for beer during commercials,
Because the revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be televised.
The revolution will not be brought to you by Xerox
In 4 parts without commercial interruptions.
The revolution will not show you pictures of Nixon
blowing a bugle and leading a charge by John
Mitchell, General Abrams and Spiro Agnew to eat
hog maws confiscated from a Harlem sanctuary.

The revolution will not be televised.
The revolution will not be brought to you by the
Schaefer Award Theatre and will not star Natalie
Woods and Steve McQueen or Bullwinkle and Julia.
The revolution will not give your mouth sex appeal.
The revolution will not get rid of the nubs.
The revolution will not make you look five pounds
thinner, because the revolution will not be televised, Brother.

There will be no pictures of you and Willie May
pushing that shopping cart down the block on the dead run,
or trying to slide that color television into a stolen ambulance.
NBC will not be able to predict the winner at 8:32
or report from 29 districts.
The revolution will not be televised.

There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down
brothers in the instant replay.
There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down
brothers in the instant replay.
There will be no pictures of Whitney Young being
run out of Harlem on a rail with a brand new process.
There will be no slow motion or still life of Roy
Wilkens strolling through Watts in a Red, Black and
Green liberation jumpsuit that he had been saving
For just the proper occasion.

Green Acres, The Beverly Hillbillies, and Hooterville
Junction will no longer be so damned relevant, and
women will not care if Dick finally gets down with
Jane on Search for Tomorrow because Black people
will be in the street looking for a brighter day.
The revolution will not be televised.

There will be no highlights on the eleven o'clock
news and no pictures of hairy armed women
liberationists and Jackie Onassis blowing her nose.
The theme song will not be written by Jim Webb,
Francis Scott Key, nor sung by Glen Campbell, Tom
Jones, Johnny Cash, Englebert Humperdink, or the Rare Earth.
The revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be right back
after a message about a white tornado, white lightning, or white people.
You will not have to worry about a dove in your
bedroom, a tiger in your tank, or the giant in your toilet bowl.
The revolution will not go better with Coke.
The revolution will not fight the germs that may cause bad breath.
The revolution will put you in the driver's seat.

The revolution will not be televised, will not be televised,
will not be televised, will not be televised.
The revolution will be no re-run brothers;
The revolution will be live.
